Spring forward
A few ideas for change
If you saw my post about seasons a few weeks ago ( here ) I am very much a new person each season. Are you? Do you take the change to do different things, eat new foods, exercise in new ways, follow different passions?
As we spring forward this weekend, I am already feeling a bit lighter- longer days and a hit of warmth here in New York. My wintering mode is melting with the strength of the sun and I am ready to emerge-soon- and shift into new habits, new routines, new meals and longer walks.
Here’s some ideas to get us springing!
*Have your morning coffee or drink outside now that it’s not so cold. Morning sunlight is so good for starting the day and regulating circadian rhythm
Add some gentle morning movement if you’ve got the time. I recently started qigong and am doing short 5-15 minute videos online. It’s gentle stretch with mindfulness and helps me feel calm and focused.
Start growing some herbs on the window sill. I can’t even say how happy it makes me to grab some and garnish my meals.
Consider changing out indoor exercise or treadmill for more outside walks. Nothing like nature!
Hang a bird feeder. This is something I did recently - pleases me to no end to see the array of birds stopping by already. And the morning bird song is a delight to wake up to isn’t it?
Swap out some decor to lighter “springy” colors and florals and bright seasonal patterns to surround yourself with the spring vibe. Such unique finds on Etsy!
Do a spring clean out of your cosmetic bag or shelves and that includes skincare. Toss anything over a year old or so, anything dried up or simply things you never use. For new skincare, I recommend Eight Saints or Farmhouse Fresh. Two brands I use and love. Check out the discovery kits at Eight Saints! That's how I got hooked.
Do a closet makeover also. Ditch the heavy sweaters and pants for lighter materials and brighter colors. It feels good to shed the layers doesn’t it?
Book a trip! Even a day trip. If you were home a lot this winter, now is the time to head out and explore. To me, travel is the ultimate mind, body and spirit refresh and nourishment.
Grab some new books. Donate old ones, trade with friends or sell them. I have many of my favorites on my Bookshop site and you can choose to support local small bookshops when you shop there( in your home area or anywhere) Peek here
Find a new class or hobby. There are so many places that hold workshops and classes for low cost , like yoga studios, art studios, small stores and local town centers and libraries. Expand your horizons.Learn something new. Meet new people! It’s fulfilling and fun.
Get out your camera , or phone, and take pics of the spring sights. You can save them of course, or print them and frame, for yourself or as a nice little gift. Make some into canvas gifts, or print on a mug. Love the personal touch gifts like that!
Stay well, enjoy the days and be light
